In our afternoon session, Robert Fleming will discuss “Representing Clients With Diminished Capacity.”  Then Robert and Calvin Curtis, Program Chair, Calvin Curtis, Attorney at Law, PLLC, will host our popular “Interactive Ethics Program”.  Our afternoon session concludes with presentations by Becky Allred, Stagg Elder Care, on “Aging at Home – Things We Have Learned” and Calvin Curtis, providing a “Utah Medicaid Update, Including Estate Recovery”.

Our past two seminars have averaged more than 50 attendees (attorneys, presenters, and other professionals).  A number of your colleagues have described this seminar as one you “must attend”, and one recent attendee described it as the “best estate planning seminar out there”.  All of the speakers present in an open, informal style, welcome your questions, and work hard to make sure you understand the subject matter presented.

We hope you plan to join us on Friday, May 13, 2016!  This valuable seminar is co-sponsored by the Practical Planning System, the REAL Probate System, and the Utah State Bar.

Improve Your Practice!

Providing sound advice to your clients becomes more confusing and complicated each year, and this valuable seminar, now in its 13th year, helps you learn what you need to know to properly assist your clients.  Our seminar this year emphasizes four issues: (1) Modifying trusts, including collapsing unneeded credit shelter trusts; (2) understanding changes to the power of attorney act and other actions taken by the Utah Legislature; (3) representing clients with diminished capacity and determining whether they can safely remain at home; and (4) providing an update regarding the long term care Medicaid program and the New Choices Waiver.

Robert Fleming headlines our seminar again this year, addressing in our morning session “Trust Modification Under The Uniform Trust Code, Including Collapsing Now Unneeded Credit Shelter Trusts.”  Next, Lane London, a Long Term Care Medicaid Policy Specialist for the State of Utah, and Trecia Carpenter, Manager of the New Choices Waiver program, will provide a “State Medicaid Update”.  Rounding out our morning session, Langdon Owen, Cohne Kinghorn, PC, co-chair of the Joint Legislative Committee of the Estate Planning and Elder Law Sections of the Bar, will provide a “Legislative Update”.  Kim Mayberry, Founding Member of Practical Planning System, LLC, will provide a special lunch presentation.

In our afternoon session, Robert Fleming returns to discuss “Representing Clients With Diminished Capacity.”  Then Robert and Calvin Curtis (Program Chair) Calvin Curtis, Attorney at Law, PLLC, will host our popular “Interactive Ethics Program”.  Our afternoon session concludes with presentations by Becky Allred, Stagg Elder Care, on “Aging at Home – Things We Have Learned” and Calvin Curtis, providing a “Utah Medicaid Update, Including Estate Recovery”.

This seminar has been approved for 5 1/2 hours of CLE credit, plus 1 hour of ethics credit.  Course materials, continental breakfast, refreshment breaks and buffet lunch will all be provided.  Come learn important tips and techniques to improve your estate planning and elder law practice!
